Hey everybody! This is Mathew popping in just to say how proud I am of Kim Barnett. In my pursuit of both trying to manage my spirit by not taking on extra assignments and wanting to help as many folks as possible, I thought it would be super rad to invite one of my Master Makers to participate in my name when opportunities like this pop up. Like a crafty surrogate of sorts but they get all the shine and I just help lift up. And if this project is any indication of what to expect, you are going to be blown away as I know you will be with Kim’s mug rug. As a Mx Domestic Master Maker I have had the amazing opportunity to participate in the blog tour for Elise Baek’s new book “Patchwork Gifts”. As stated in the title, it is full of “20 charming patchwork projects to give and keep”. The photography is beautiful and the directions are so well written that every maker can try a project, even out of their comfort zone and be successful.
It was so hard for me to choose which project to make as they are all fantastic. I learned how to do handwork as a child so I was initially drawn to the English Paper Piecing (EPP) patterns. I have been working on trying new things, so I chose to make the Flying Geese Mug Rug and use Maureen Cracknell’s Mystical Land fabrics and Cabernet Pure Solid by Art Gallery Fabrics.
I have wanted to learn Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) for some time, but frankly I have been a little intimidated by it. So I decided this was the time to jump in and making the Mug Rug gave me the opportunity to learn a new skill and feel very happy with the outcome. I have learned so much during the past 9 months. Skills are so important but confidence in my abilities, and the growth from it, is what I’m truly thankful for.

I love this! The colors are beautiful. I’m intimidated by paper piecing because what I have tried had such vague instructions that a lot of ripping out was involved. Guess I should check out this book!

Geese hate me. But, maybe using this technique I won’t loose the points and not get frustrated with machine eaten tips. Sighhhh mush time learn and this is a beauty. Great gift idea.
