Tallinn Flowermania Appliqué Pillow

Tallinn Flowermania Appliqué Pillow

Posted on February 23, 2018February 24, 2021 by Mathew Boudreaux

When I first heard that Jessica Swift was going to be a new fabric designer for Art Gallery Fabrics, I legit did happy backflips in my head because her aesthetic is bananas and I knew it would translate beautifully to surface design. And then I saw the actual collection and it blew me away because it was even better than I’d fantasized in my head.

And like this was one of those collections where my brain basically overloaded with ideas. And when that happens, I turn to English Paper Piecing because I’ve found that it forces me to slow my brain down and allows me to get really intimate with fabric in a way that doesn’t happen with other fabric play. Enter my Flowermania Quilt Design.

Wow did this rosette give me the feels. The perfection of the neighborhood of houses and those swans and the geometric!! Woweewow!!!! I had always wanted to machine applique a Flowermania rosette into a pillow and I knew this was the perfect moment.

To watch my technique or this application, in addition to some other tips and tricks, I created a YouTube video to help.

And here are some of the goodies I used in the video.

For the applique of the rosette, I used the 28 wt Very Dark Navy Aurifil from my Mister Domestic’s Tool Box. Boy do I love how it stands out and frames the flower. And for the straight line quilting, I used the 50 wt  Lobster Red Aurifil from Helena’s Toy Box. Perfection. Perfection. Perfection.

So boom shake shake shake the room, here’s the finished pillow.
