Woven Mud Cloth Tea Party Dress

Posted on August 4, 2016December 14, 2023 by Mathew Boudreaux

As soon as I saw Sharon Holland‘s Tapestry Collection with Art Gallery Fabrics, I knew exactly what I was gonna make with it: the Oliver&S Tea Party Dress. And of course the bodice called to be woven, but this time with the tumbling block triaxial weave.

I went with 1″ strips for the weave because I wanted to still see the pattern of the fabric peak through the weave. First, I laid down the exquisite teal and peach print. Oh my I was I love and wanted to bathe in it.

Then I wove in the next layer of the charcoal and mustard. Like legit these colors were meant to be together.

Then the magic happened with the off white and teal print and boom goes the dynamite the tumbling blocks appeared.

Once I was finished with the bodice, I was feeling all adventurous so I went with two colors for the skirt instead of one.

Then wham bam thank you mam, my sewing machine did its thang and this happened.

And like this is cute and all, but as an apparel sewer, flat lay doesn’t give me the feels because you just gotta see in on the dress form. So boom, I took a picture and ooh lala. The side panels are perfection and the skirt makes sense!

Seriously this collection and pattern are radtastic!!! And check out my blog about the dress on Oliver&S.
