Helena & Mattie made by Katie Skoog

Posted on July 26, 2018January 28, 2024 by Mathew Boudreaux

I can’t believe it’s been almost two years since The Simple Life Pattern Company released the Helena’s Button-Back Top/Dress and the Mattie’s Scalloped Suspender Skirt patterns. I forgot how Katie Skoog and I got on the subject of naming patterns, but I jokingly said that she should name a pattern after me. Then she totally one-upped me and told me that she was going to name her next pattern duo after me and Helena both. But like Mathew’s Scalloped Skirt didn’t work so I became a Mattie. Isn’t that like so super neato? I’m so honored that (1) Helena and I are forever in the SLPCo catalogue and (2) these patterns are so super duper awesome exciting yaaaaay!

A couple weeks beforeĀ Spring Quilt Market 2018 , Katie reached out and asked if I would like her to make the Helena and Mattie out of my fabric for my booth. I immediately sent her the fabric and, as she was coming to market, she brought it to my booth the morning of. And wow was I absolutely blown away.

As you can see it prominently displayed in many of my recent videos, I loved this outfit so much that I had it hanging as decoration in my room for a few months. But then a week ago it hit me that Helena recently had a growth spurt and that I needed to do a photo shoot pronto with the outfit before it was too late. The shirt fit as if it were made for her, which is was so yay!!!!

The skirt was a little snug, but we made it work for the shoot and I promised to make her a bigger one using the same buttons and stuff. Oopsie daisies dada.

But for realz I love this outfit so much that I might just keep this one for decoration in my room because of how special it is on so many levels. If you’ve never made a Simple Life Pattern Company pattern, they are amazingly executed and easy to follow. Thanks again Katie for being a part of my Spring Market Booth and for allowing Helena and me to quite literally be a part of the SLPCo family.
