10-Minute Pillow Case

10-Minute Pillow Case (with video tutorial)

Posted on December 13, 2018January 27, 2024 by Mathew Boudreaux

On a whim, I got the idea to make some complementary pillow cases for her room to match her bunk bed drapes I have yet to make. And since the pillows literally take 10 minutes to make, I knew that this was also a project that I had to do a tutorial for.

And seriously y’all, now that I’ve made these for Helena, I’m staring at the pillow cases in my bedroom wondering why I’ve been laying my head on basic pillowcases when I can have fabulous. I made Helena standard size, but I know I, and probably many of y’all, wanna make some bigger sized ones.

To make pillowcases the same dimensions as their pillow counterparts, here are the fabric requirements and cuts:

All pillow sizes require one half yard (cut to two 9″ x WOF rectangles) of a secondary fabric and two 1.5″ x WOF strips for the flange (enough for two pillows)

Standard Pillow Case

  • Primary Fabric Requirement: 45″ x Width of Fabric (1.25 yards)
  • Cut to two 22.5″ x WOF rectangles

Super Standard Pillow Case – called Standard/Queen size in stores – most common found

  • Primary Fabric Requirement: 49″ x Width of Fabric (<1.5 yards)
  • Cut to two 24.5″ x WOF rectangles

Queen Pillow Case

  • Primary Fabric Requirement: 53″ x Width of Fabric (<1.5 yards)
  • Cut to two 26.5″ x WOF rectangles

King Pillow Case

  • Primary Fabric Requirement: 75″ x Width of Fabric (<2.25 yards)
  • Cut to two 32.5″ x WOF rectangles

For those interested, these are the Art Gallery Fabrics prints that I used by Bari J, Pat Bravo & Katarina Roccella.

I had such a blast making these easy peasy pillowcases and hope y’all enjoy them as well. Helena let me have a photoshoot with her pillows before she took them, so here they are.

Sleep well folks.

Love, love your Work! Great attitude, great technique. Though I do not do all your projects…I find them all interesting to watch how you create. Matthew you are an inspiration to do more challenging things projects ect…. I thought about making pillow cases seem to not care for the cases in the store. too little too big too cheap or just too expensive on what I like. Champagne taste tap water pocket book. lol…You’ve made this for me easier to get my pillows looking like champagne has filled my fridge. So now I will get started…
