Project Quilting – Abecedarius

Posted on March 10, 2019January 22, 2024 by Mathew Boudreaux

Okay so this project was super duper fun y’all. Have you heard of Project Quilting? It’s now in its 10th season and it’s the brainchild of Kim Lapacek of Persimon Dreams, who is obsessed with the challenges in Project Runway and was awesome enough to organize something for the quilting world. Super neato, ya? And she asked if I’d be interested in being a PQ Celebrity and of course I said yes because this is rad.

As a PQC, I was to participate in the challenge this week, which was the awesome theme of Abecedarius, which means an alphabet primer. Immediately, I had two ideas. I plan on making both, but focused on one for this week. I’d always been curious to see what an alternate colorway version of my Anthonem Pillow would look like, so this was my chance to make it. So for this version, I used my Anthonem Festive Print from Loved to Pieces, the Midnight Wished print from the Campsite Collection, and Cool Foliage solid smooth denim.

So with the fabrics chosen. I got to cutting out the 26 flowers in my Anthonem Print. For those who are new to the print, it has 26 different flowers with their names underneath, one for every letter in the English Alphabet.

After cutting the rest of the fabric required for this free pattern, I got to stitching up the pillow front and it didn’t take long before I realized how fabulous this version was going to be. I edge-stitch quilted only the horizontal transition pieces with Wonderfil Ultima, which matched the chic look of the overall design methinks.

A matched the quilting on the solid denim back, sewed in an invisible zipper, and voila, the Festive Version of my Anthonem Pillow was birthed.

So for reals y’all, this Project Quilting challenge was super fun!!! There’s one more after this, so make sure to participate so you can win prizes and stuff. I’m not eligible, but Kim did offer us a couple options as a thank you and I chose to have her donate $$ to the Trevor Project. Thanks so much Kim for everything!
