Shortly after my governor enacted a stay-at-home order, my neighborhood had a moment with a couple thieves stealing stuff out of folks cars in the middle of the night. As a result, my spouse asked me to make curtains for all of the downstairs windows so folks can’t see what’s in our home. And while they didn’t care about aesthetics, Helena was very quick to let me know that Mx Domestic had to have nice curtains. Hence, the tale of three [sets of] curtains emerged.
As with most of my projects, I invited Helena to help me pick out the fabrics. Her papa vetoed once of the fabrics, which I agreed with, so I replaced that fabric with denim and got to work.
First up was the kitchen. Helena picked this Amy Sinibaldi print from Paperie. It was recolored in one of last year’s AGF Fusions and boy did it catch the light beautifully framing Cardi Tree.
Next up was a panel of four curtains along a shorter window. We didn’t have enough of this Bari J print, so I decided to have a 6″ band of denim on the top and bottom which would tie it into the third curtain set and created a perfect frame for the light to come through the print.
Now this third curtain duo was the main event as it took more time to make than the other two combined. I had always wanted to use a flat-fell seam in curtains and this was the perfect opportunity to innovate since I didn’t have enough of any single denim to cover the entire opening.

Beautiful curtains and I love the denim. However, they are overshadowed tremendously by the always fabulous Ms. Helena! That outfit, that expression! Wonderful, just absolutely wonderful.

Love the curtains and love that I found you, your smile and all your expertise during this tough time. You have inspired me. I started with your pillow case tutorial, then made some curtains, a dress and lots of masks. I think I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome now though. OUCH. Any advice on that? The Dr. told me to stop sewing for a while!! Bummer!!
Great timing and fabulous curtains! You are SO creative! I moved to a new place barely a week before the shutdown and wouldn’t you know – not a single curtain that I owned would fit any of these windows. So, after a very unpleasant attempt to shorten and hem a store-bought pair for the bathroom that I already had, I made my own, though not nearly as ambitious as yours. Had to get creative with the kitchen curtains since I measured wrong and didn’t order enough fabric. That’s okay! A little piecing using flat-felled seams just like you did and we’re good. My mama taught me that cool finish years ago. Great, isn’t it? Now, do I want to take on the bedroom windows? 😀
