Anagram Pillow

Posted on January 11, 2019January 27, 2024 by Mathew Boudreaux

Last year, I was introduced to The Crafters Edge Crossover II, which is this super awesome die cutting system. I did a demo on my YouTube Channel when I first got it and I found it to be a super easy system and a company that was open and receptive to feedback.

I was sent the A, E, H, L, & N and I thought it would be super neato to make an alternative anagram of Helena’s name in her favorite colors: pink, purple and turquoise of course. I began this Anagram pillow back in August and then it went on my Works-in-Progress (WIP) stack to be forgotten until just recently. The cutting, the layout, the fusing, all were done.

And as always with WIPs, I didn’t have much to do to finish it. There was something about the white background that made me feel like the pillow needed to be fluffy and the quilting minimal. So I used White 50 wt Aurifil to quilt even squares between the letters. Luckily, the hera marker marks were still there from me laying the letters out, so it was easy peasy to quilt the squares. Then, I felt like it needed a little more decorative oomph, so I used Blossom Pink, Violet, & Dark Turquoise 50 wt Aurifil to outline each letter, which did exactly what I had hoped. Thank goodness for Aurifil having some a diverse selection of colors because the threads were near matches to the fabrics I used.

For the back, my eye kept gravitating to my Reap & Sew Light Print from my Loved to Pieces Collection, so I quilted that up with a similar grid pattern and secured the pillow with an invisible zipper in the bottom seam.

To say Helena loved this 24″ x 24″ pillow is a severe understatement because it is her go to comfy cozy pillow, just like I had hoped. Sometimes something simple executed with love is all it takes.

While I don’t promote anything unless I legit love it, this post contains affiliate links.

These may be dumb questions, but 1) what type of fabric are the letters made of, 2) is each letter on its own square and then pieced together and 3) does the front of the pillow consist of 2-3 layers? Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you!
