Arizona After + Pearl Snaps = Swanky Shirt

Posted on May 10, 2017February 21, 2021 by Mathew Boudreaux

I sure do love me some April Rhodes. Like she’s one of the best fabric designers in the game and doesn’t even realize it because she’s grounded and amazing and humble. And her new Arizona After collection oh em gee it’s off the chain. So when she asked me if I’d make myself a shirt for her to use at Market, I was all over that like white on rice. Here’s the collection for your viewing pleasure….

The hardest part for me was picking the fabric because I could envision them all on my body. But I ended up picking this Clay Sundot Dusk print.

And, of course, I reached for the trusty McCalls M6044 because the fit and vintage feel are just perfect. And I also got to play with my new toy: the Clover Press Perfect Hot Ruler. Like you can iron directly over it and it just next levels the precision.

I also used Aurifil Ermine 50wt for the topstitching, which is my favorite of all neutrals. And sexy light looook….

Okay and here’s a non-sexy light pic to show you how I use the center guide of my foot to make sure my double top-stitch it even Steven. Works like a charm!

I cut the pockets, half the button plackets, the visible collar and the back yoke on the bias to add visual interest and I’m really stoked with the outcome.

And then I was like hmmmm buttons buttons buttons I can’t decide. And then I thought pearl snaps! Perfect accessory to cement the vintage feel.

And finally here I am all looking fly in my new shirt sitting on Helena’s sandbox.

While I don’t promote anything unless I legit love it, this post contains affiliate links.

I need to make myself a blouse from one of these delicious fabrics! Does anyone have a favorite short sleeve blouse pattern?

The Easy Top & Tunic would look great in one of these fabrics! https://indygojunction.com/collections/tops-tunics/products/indygo-essentials-easy-top-tunic?variant=31526090633
