Aura Improv Flower Pillow

Posted on October 20, 2018January 28, 2024 by Mathew Boudreaux

The night before I was to teach my Improv Flower pattern at NW Quilting Expo this year, I realized that I had donated my final Improv Flower sample a few weeks before and I didn’t have anything for my class to show. So on a last minute sewing spree, I whipped up a version using the strike offs from my new Aura Fabric collection to show in the class and boy was I in love. I’d never made one with prints before and the play of the fabrics together really blew me away.

So with sample in hand, I walked the class through the process of creating their own improv flowers and wow was it like a garden in bloom.

So once things calmed down after a two week teaching spree of super fun awesome yay, I decided to quilt it up using the Hobbs Heirloom Fusible Cotton Batting and Superior Threads turquoise MicroQuilter thread.

It took a hot minute before I finally decided on the backing, but I went with the Canyon Sunset Texture Denim and oooh la la la la la la la la.

To make your own Improv Flower Block, you can purchase the pattern on my Craftsy Site and watch the supplemental video on my YouTube Channel.

While I don’t promote anything unless I legit love it, this post contains affiliate links.

Mathew, the batting that you used, I notice it is 80/20. Does it maintain loft better than 100%? I’ve never used a blend before ~ my purest side slaps my hand every time I reach for a blend. These are all beautiful! The colors of your fabrics are just stunning.
