Black Geese Flying on a Rainbow Pillow

Posted on December 14, 2017February 24, 2021 by Mathew Boudreaux

When I first saw Heather Givans of Crimson Tate‘s November Aurifil Block of the Month, I knew exactly how I was going to interpret it. The Tall Trees block pattern in itself is rad in it’s offset perfection and modern and yum. But I felt like I needed more rainbow in my life, so I tweaked it to include a gradient of 19 Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Element Solids in the background. Here are the Pure Elements if you wanted to do this same gradient ever:

  1. Banana Cream
  2. Honeydew
  3. Mandarin
  4. Burnt Orange
  5. Coral Reef
  6. Aurora Red
  7. Raspberry Rose
  8. Quartz Pink
  9. Mauvelous
  10. Verve Violet
  11. Purple Pansy
  12. Night Sea
  13. Ocean Waves
  14. Tranquil Waters
  15. Fresh Water
  16. Mirage Blue
  17. Cozumel Blue
  18. Pistachio Creme
  19. Icy Mint

I went with black flying geese because rainbow and black is major ooh la la la la la la la la.

I created a 13″ x 13″ block that needed to be featured buy itself I thought. So I added a 3″ black border to make an 18″ x 18″ pillow.

With both the Pale Pink and Iris from my Mister Domestic’s Tool Box being a perfect compliment to rainbow, I let Helena choose and she went with the purple.

Of course Helena was right because she always is. I swear she has better taste than me. I went with my go-to canvas snap pillow back and used a decorative stitch to give it some extra oomph.

And check out the final product. Not only does the Iris look bananas on the rainbow, but it’s perfection as a grid on point on the black border as well.
