Crochet Shawl for my Mama

So I’ve basically become a crocheting machine. I’ve realized that as long as I keep my stitches simple, I don’t have to plan and I don’t have to think, so Netflix & Crochet can actually be a thang in my household. I was sent two skeins of this gorgeous Sprightly Spectrum Worsted Yarn in the Belize It Color Story from Bluprint. It’s a long striping acrylic/wool blend that is just glorious to work with.

I was looking for an easy pattern to do so I could zone off into the stories on my TV, so I used a 6 mm hook and went with a simple double crochet design. You basically chain two in the center and add three stitches on both ends as you add to it. I found a tutorial on YouTube that looks like what I did, so if you’re interested in making one, here’s a link.

I decided even before I started that I was making this for my mama. She has some quilty stuff I’ve made but nothing crochet and I know she’s always cold so I figured she’d use something like this. I’ve never worn a shawl so I don’t know when you’re supposed to wear them. Like to the opera? To the grocery store? Heck I don’t know, maybe this isn’t even a shawl and it’s called a wrap. If you know the difference, can you please tell me in the comments?

I finished it up during our last family movie night and now it’s ready to pop into the mail. But before I send it, I had to do a photo shoot in case my mom doesn’t send me a photo. If she does though I’ll add it here I promise. Until then, here’s my fashion show.

So fingers crossed my mama likes it and it keeps her warm and stuff. Now it’s time to figure out what to crochet next.

This photo just cracked me up so I had to include it.

Pretty colors in that yarn. I think a shawl is rectangular and a wrap can be any shape, but those just might be my distinctions. From your modeling, I’d say it’s versatile and she can call it “warm and wonderful wrap”!

Wow! I think your mom will love this!
As for your question, I always rethought that a wrap was rectangular and a shawl had a longer outside edge that flowed down around the body. So I looked it up here:

    https://www.elizabetta.net/blogs/the-elizabetta-journal/17625004-differences-between-a-scarf-shawl-wrap-and-stole

A SHAWL refers to a larger piece of fabric, usually rectangular, but sometimes triangular or square in shape that can be wrapped around the body.
A WRAP is a modern term which is used to define scarves, shawls and stoles.

Just to make sure, I checked out other websites- all of which agreed with the above.

    So now we know! ?
