Cut & Run Bag by Trina Peterson

Posted on June 2, 2018March 14, 2020 by Mathew Boudreaux

This Cut & Run bag by Trina Peterson is amazing and everyone needs one. Any time I’m teaching or going to a class, I either have to shortchange the size notions that I bring or I have to make multiple trips back and forth to my car and that’s just no fun. This eliminates all that and let’s you bring your big dogs.  I’m so honored that Trina wanted to make me one for my booth and that she let me keep it because it’s gonna get sooo much use and when it’s not in use, it’s Grover’s favorite perch.

Trina had me pick the fabrics from Loved to Pieces for her to make the bag and I knew exactly what I wanted like within 2 seconds. The Anthonem Festive for the main fabric, the Striped Flow Marine for the pocket and straps and the Topiary Fern for the lining. And oh em gee is it everything I didn’t even know to wish for I’m obsessed.

I snagged some progress photos from Trina to show all the goodness.

I asked Trina to tell us more about herself and the bag and here she is:

The Cut & Run Bag is designed to fit an 18″ x 24″ cutting mat and 24″ quilting ruler. There is a recessed, separating zipper and an interior patch pocket specifically designed to fit a 12.5″ square quilting ruler. The exterior features a bellows (pleated) pocket with Velcro closure for things like rotary cutters, scissors, etc.

I designed this bag with the traveler in mind. My cutting mat and long quilting ruler are always the most cumbersome items that I take with me to retreats, classes, and sew days. This bag keeps those items safely contained while also offering room for other cutting tools.

I tend to create and sew items that are functional for the home and travel. I recently started writing sewing patterns so that others could make them as well. Stitching, making, and creating is my way of life. When I need or want something, I first think about how I could make it as opposed to buying it. That way I can make it exactly how I want it, both functionally and aesthetically. The joy I get out of the process of making is the part that keeps me coming back for more.

I also co-founded the Modern Stitching Affair sewing retreat in Madison, Wisconsin with my bestie, Wendy Franczak (@wendyfranczak) in 2016. We love bringing sewists together for a weekend of fun, learning, and inspiration.

You can find the pattern for the Cut & Run Bag and a few other projects in my Etsy shop: www.bytrinapeterson.etsy.com. You’ll also find zipper pull charms and other handmade items. Take 15% off everything in the shop until August 31st with code MRDOMESTIC.

Isn’t that the neatest that she offered a coupon code? Oh em gee y’all head over to her shop and buy all the things everything is amazing. She also has a pattern for these super rad Bangor Buckets where she used the scraps from the bag and oh em gee y’all so cute.
