Quilted/Woven Pillow Duo

Posted on October 10, 2016November 14, 2023 by Mathew Boudreaux

So if y’all aren’t aware of my obsession with all things Katarina Roccella yet, then you’re officially up to speed. So when I saw that she was September’s Aurifil Designer of the Month and that she had an Into the Blue pattern as a part of it, I totally had to jump on board and play.

For the block, I chose two prints from Avant Garde, one print from Lavish, the new Classic Denim and the Mirage Blue Pure Elements. Then I got to cutting and piecing the half square triangles together. Seriously this was way more fun than I envisioned.

So then I put this up on my design wall for a bit and moved on to doing something weavy. And then one day when I was zoning out, I looked over to this block and was like OMG that kinda looks like my Optical Illusion Weave. So I had the idea to make a complimentary panel using a modified version of my pattern.

And then that panel went onto my design wall for a bit until I decided on using the Aurifil Jade 40wt thread to quilt the pieced panel.

Ooooooh la la. To me, the quilting both mimics the flow of the woven panel and the original HST construction. Then dun dun dun duuuuuun…. The 12″ quilted/woven pillow duo was born.

And here they are one at a time just because. I used the Bluebottle Field textured denim for the back which is oh so cozy. Yaaaaaaaaay!

I really love this one! Such a perfect pair! I am still obsessed with triaxial weave that I started with in WAL but I am going to this pattern next!! Yay!
And Katarina’s fabric!! My other obsession… LOL!

OMG – brilliant. I have been searching everywhere for something different to do with the Continental size pillow to go on my son’s denim quilt I made him – THIS IS IT!!!!!! You are sooooooo clever. My son loves the denim quilt I made him out of his jeans – he loves everything Japanese so I backed the quilt with beautiful material depicting a gorgeous Japanese scene. I cant wait to get onto making this pillow now to go in between the other two. Thanks so much for sharing!
