Thank You Bonnie Christine

Posted on February 19, 2018February 24, 2021 by Mathew Boudreaux

As many of you now know, I am the newest fabric designer in the Angles Division of Art Gallery Fabrics. And like most of the opportunities presented to me in the sewing/quilting world, this milestone in my journey was a combination of hard work & planning and serendipity. One such serendipitous moment occurred when I stopped waffling and decided to explore my potential in surface design. Almost at the precise moment when I cemented this quiet decision only to myself and a couple other people, I was directed by one of these people with five star rave reviews to Bonnie Christine‘s online courses in surface design.  Bonnie’s one of the AGF Fabric Designers in case you didn’t know. So having full trust in this person’s advice, I dove in head first to the Bonnie Christine experience and boy did it change my life.

Prior to taking Bonnie’s courses, I had an intermediate grasp of Illustrator where I could eventually get an idea from my head to the computer screen even though it might not have been the most efficient way. And like many of y’all out there, I’d seen the iPad Pro magic of Jenean Morrison on Instagram and immediately ran out and bought my own Apple pencil and portable doodle machine thinking that I had everything that I needed to embark on this next voyage on Mister Domestic cruise ship. It didn’t take long for me to realize that this trek was going to be a long one with only my limited arsenal in Illustrator and my new doodle-ability.

Enter Bonnie Christine. Wow. Just wow. It’s like you don’t know what you don’t know until you realize you didn’t know something. Bonnie learned all of these skills and tips and tricks of surface design on her own and shares them in her courses in a way that was clear and efficient and got me to my aha moments much more quickly than I generally do when being taught something on the more technical end of the spectrum. And legit her voice is one of those voices that I could listen to all day, so the learning felt effortless as a student. Honestly, what Bonnie through her courses did for me is one of the main reasons that I am a fabric designer now and for that, I am now and forever grateful. So thank you Bonnie Christine.

As part of my gratitude, I didn’t hesitate to say yes when Bonnie asked me to be an affiliate for her courses. I’ve made a conscious choice to not accept many affiliate offers so that I can remain an organic and authentic resource, but Bonnie was someone who I already knew I was going to be singing the praises of for decades, so it was a no-brainer. And right now through the 27th, Bonnie is signing up students for her Immersion course. It’s an investment, absolutely. But it’s one that you should definitely make if you’re wanting to pursue a career in surface design and I wouldn’t recommend it unless I knew for certain that it was worth it. Life changing. Trust.

To my knowledge, the course does not include illustrator and any computer that supports illustrator would work. You should reach out to Bonnie directly if you needed more information.

I found this after graduating Immersion just last week!! Yay, me! And I will say as an official Bonnie Christine Immersion Alumni that her course, support team and the entire experience is an investment…AND worth every penny! You learn Illustrator and go way beyond that for those that are looking for a career in surface design or just want to invest in themselves to really grasp the tricks of using Illustrator. Definitely worth looking in to.
